[People News] It is widely recognised that Xi Jinping often finds himself in embarrassing situations during international diplomatic events. During the recent "Trump-Xi meeting," Xi Jinping's every action once again drew significant attention. Following his arrival in South Korea, public sentiment against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Xi Jinping reached a peak.
On October 30, the Trump-Xi meeting took place at the Gimhae Air Force Base in Busan, where a large crowd of South Koreans gathered near Gimhae International Airport to protest against the tyranny of the CCP. A South Korean man drove a truck, stood in the truck bed waving an American flag, and shouted through a loudspeaker, "Dictator Xi Jinping, get out, go back to your country!"
On October 29, the day before Xi Jinping's visit to South Korea, an anti-communist demonstration was held in downtown Gyeongju, where hundreds of South Koreans waved South Korean and American flags, displaying slogans such as "Heavenly punishment on the CCP," "Stop stealing the country," and "Korea belongs to Koreans," while chanting, "Chinese Communist Party, get out!"
An anti-communist South Korean stated, "I don't care whether Xi Jinping visits or what he does; we just don't want the CCP on this land, never again."
In the context of the protests from the South Korean public, Xi Jinping appears to have been overshadowed by Trump in terms of presence. Before the talks commenced, the handshake and brief pleasantries exchanged between Trump and Xi Jinping highlighted their contrasting demeanours. Trump was lively and relaxed, even calling Xi Jinping a tough negotiator in front of the media, and he patted Xi on the back several times, which was interpreted as 'the big brother comforting the little brother.' In stark contrast, Xi Jinping appeared very reserved and stiff; aside from his initial greeting of 'Nice to meet you,' he spoke very little and did not respond at all when Trump patted his back.
In reaction, netizens mocked him, saying, 'Xi Baozi can't speak without his little notebook,' and 'This is a characteristic of elementary school students, shrinking back and not daring to be bold in public.'
According to the live broadcast, after the official commencement of the 'Trump-Xi meeting,' both sides sent six representatives. The Chinese delegation included Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Vice Premier He Lifeng, as well as Zheng Chajie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce.
The U.S. delegation comprised Secretary of State Rubio, Treasury Secretary Besant, Commerce Secretary Luthnick, White House Chief of Staff Welles, Trade Representative Greer, and U.S. Ambassador to China Burns.
Notably, at the lengthy negotiation table, there were no documents in front of Trump, allowing him to express himself freely and speak spontaneously. In contrast, Xi Jinping had two A4 sheets of paper in front of him, featuring suspected negotiation content written in a very large font. Xi Jinping read from these sheets while occasionally glancing up at Trump, who frequently shook his head from side to side, appearing quite impatient.
From the perspective of the Chinese stock market, it is clear that the 'Trump-Xi meeting' did not yield any positive results. On the day of the meeting, prior to the discussions, the Shanghai Composite Index was still around 4,000 points. However, following the approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes of talks, the index closed at 3,986.9 points, down 0.73%, dipping below the 4,000-point mark. Additionally, the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 13,532.13 points, down 1.16%, and the ChiNext Index closed at 3,263.02 points, down 1.84%. △
